Shalakya Tantra in Ayurveda refers to the branch of Ayurvedic medicine that treats diseases above the neck and shoulders. It derives its name from the Sanskrit word “Shalaka,” which means rod or probe. In the southern part of India, Shalakya Tantra is referred to as Urdhwang Chikitsa, which comes from the words Urdhwang, meaning body parts above the shoulders, and Chikitsa, meaning treatment.
